Lanray X and Teck-Zilla : “Crime & Justice” featuring Lxnda

After dropping the 5 track afro-fusion project ‘Step It Up” in 2022, rising rapper Lanray X and producer/DJ Teck-Zilla returns with a new offering titled “Crime & Justice”.
The afrobeats/hip-hop infused track sees Lanray X detailing the craziness of living in Lagos which is one of the busiest metropolitan cities in Africa. Over Teck-Zilla’s bright and solemn guitar riffs, shuffling percussions and bouncy drums, Lanray X paints a not-so-bright picture of the daily struggles ranging from abject poverty, mass disenfranchisement, police brutality/ corruption and then some. Lanray X weaves in and out with a mix of English and Nigerian Pidgin English, showcasing his indigenous side to the rest of the globe.
There is so much to unpack here as he gives real-life stories and it’s far from pretty. The lyrics are relatable but more to citizens in Lagos who are often victims of a government that has neglected their welfare and they sought to use any means, including bending the rules, to better their lives. Also joining the fray is longtime collaborator Lxnda who adds a sultry melodic chorus underpinned by a plea to the heavens asking who would help us in this pitiful condition we are in.

“Crime & Justice” is a single from a yet to be titled EP from Lanray X and Teck-Zilla. It was recently featured on the season finale of the Showmax series Crime & Justice Lagos.

Prior to recording the song, Lanray X was involved in a ghastly accident during a trip back to production camp after shooting episode 4 with the crime and Justice Lagos Film crew. The accident claimed 1 life while the rest of the crew members suffered injuries. However, Lanray X broke his arm in the whole saga and had to record the song after taking time off from the hospital where he is still undergoing treatment.
