Producer/DJ Teck-Zilla shares his latest instrumental project I’m Pretty Sure It’s Afrobeats which sees him diving into the Afropop genre. The project was culled from numerous beat-making sessions that started when he was in the UK earlier in the year and the final pieces were completed back in Lagos, Nigeria. Teck-Zilla’s take on the rising genre is as vibrant as ever as he infuses his oft-overlooked musical background with years of hiphop beat-making. While the overall concept of the project is loose, the focal point is to show the richness and diversity of the afropop/afrobeats genre and Teck does that in abundance.

From the arresting basslines of “HOUSEZILLA 3”, the sombre tones of “4TH ROUNDABOUT”, the broodiness aesthetic of “EZEGO 9” to the mellow hypnotic runs on “TRABAYE 1”, the project offers a varying palette of sounds that lovers of the genre can appreciate.

What inspired the project:
“ I was already making a plethora of Afropop instrumentals for different artists and to broaden my horizons but after attending an online producer seminar put together by an Entertainment lawyer who challenged producers to put out these types of instrumental projects, I decided to embark on it. Luckily for me, I already had more than enough in my stash and the main issue was to select the right beats for it. After a few weeks of deliberating, I was able to arrange the project and voila, the rest is history.

I’m Pretty Sure It’s Afrobeats is Teck-Zilla’s first instrumental project since 2020’s End SARS EP.
